Dr Murray Cox has over 25 years’ experience in the management and analytics of big data initiatives, particular in biomedicine, genomic science, health and AgTech.
With a strong technical background at the interface of computer science, statistics and biology, Murray has led, managed and governed multi-million dollar programs and organizations. His major strengths include deep expertise in strategic planning, the development of big data work programs, and the deployment of complex systems thinking for better decision making. Providing high-level data information services to businesses and governments across Europe, the US, Asia and New Zealand, Murray is highly networked and enthusiastic about creative data design, the implementation of evidence-based decision making processes, and building systems to better use data analytics to drive business growth and organizational change.
Murray holds two doctorates (DSc, PhD), has authored over 150 books and articles, and has worked at many leading international organizations, including the Santa Fe Institute for Complexity Science and the University of Cambridge. He is a sought-after public speaker, and his work is widely reported in the media, including the BBC, The Economist and The New York Times. Murray has held senior fellowships at the Max Planck Institute in Germany, the University of Melbourne in Australia, and St John’s College at the University of Oxford, and was interim director of New Zealand’s complex systems institute during its re-design phase.
Murray has been a consultant for over 15 years. He is a Chartered Member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand, and has received a series of prestigious awards, including the Hector and Te Rangi Hīroa Medals, recognizing his influential contributions across the mathematical and information sciences, and his success in using complex data to drive transformation and change.
